FAQs
What is nutritional therapy?
If someone is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), it means they completed a year-long course at the Nutritional Therapy Association. NTPs are trained to focus on the foundations of health: Digestion, Blood Sugar, Mineral Balance, Hydration, and Fatty Acids. NTPs are qualified to order supplements and conduct functional testing like HTMA tests, stool samples, and more. When you work with an NTP you’re looking at your health through a holistic and foundational lens. NTPs graduate to do all kinds of work from making recipe books to 1:1 coaching to public speaking. I use my certificate to work with people 1:1, in group settings, or through online courses. I help people implement healthy habits around diet, movement, and nervous system regulation so that they can tap into their body’s wisdom and support their own self-healing journey.
What is an HTMA test? (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis)?
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is a cost-effective, non-invasive screening test where clients provide a hair sample to be sent to a lab for testing.
An HTMA test provides insight into all kinds of cool stuff like your metabolic rate, stage of stress and stress levels, adrenal and thyroid activity, energy levels, ideal macro ratios, mineral ratios, personality tendencies, and more.
It will help answer questions like:
Do I digest fats well? Should I eat a plant-focused diet or would eating more meat be better for me? Am I eating enough protein? Am I eating too many carbs?
This is such valuable information because, guess what, NOT EVERY DIET IS FOR EVERY BODY.
Information from an HTMA test shows how the body’s energy system is out of balance and provides the data we need to assess your metabolic rate, stage of stress and stress levels, the state of your nervous system, adrenal and thyroid activity/health, carbohydrate tolerance, energy levels, hormone health, whether you’re eating enough protein or too many carbs, and a whole lot more. It will tell you in you have a slow or fast metabolism, which can be extremely insightful and validating if you’ve struggled with weight issues.
This information will give immense insight into restoring energy. Restoring energy restores your capacity to self-heal. This test will streamline recommendations to get you feeling better, faster and with more accuracy than before.
How much hair is needed for the HTMA test?
About a teaspoon of hair is required. You’ll cut from various parts of the head. It will not be noticeable and your hairstyle will not be affected, promise! I wouldn’t do ya like that!
Is it OK if my hair is dyed?
Yes. Though a sample can not be collected until you’ve washed your hair 10 times. This will help ensure the sample is accurate.
Why are minerals important how will the HTMA help me know how to feel better?
Mineral Balance is considered one of the 5 foundations of health according to NTPs. Minerals are considered the “spark plugs” of the body because they are key in cellular health. They are required for thousands of enzyme reactions for every system in the body! They help contract and relax muscles, they facilitate the transfer of nutrients across cell membranes (nothing gets in or out of the cell without minerals!), they’re important for nerve conduction, and more. They can ONLY be obtained from food so knowing your mineral levels and mineral rations will give a clear picture into which foods you should be incorporating more or less of.
Mineral ratios will tell us your:
- metabolic rate – whether you’re burning through nutrients too fast or too slow
- your stage of stress and stress levels
- immune system – whether you’re prone to viral or bacterial infections
- adrenal and thyroid activity – which provide immense insight into your energy levels
- whether you’re eating enough protein or too many carbs
- tendencies for 30+ illnesses, often before they manifest
- personality tendencies
Knowing all of this will help me put together accurate dietary, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations that can help bring your systems back into balance.
Can I do an HTMA test if I’m bald?
Hair can be collected from other parts of the body like facial hair, armpit hair, and even pubes!

Who is Nutritional Therapy for?
If you believe that food is medicine and want to know what foods are most supportive of your health and your goals, nutritional therapy is for you.
Nutritional Therapy is for anyone who suffers from symptoms such as brain fog, headaches, fatigue/low energy, inconsistent energy, dizziness, nausea, bloat, gas, constipation/diarrhea, heartburn, reflux, digestive discomfort, sleepiness after meals, skin issues, feeling spacey or unreal, dark circles under eyes, cravings, poor sleep, and more.
Nutritional Therapy offers holistic and foundational options for anyone who has received diagnoses such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, or diabetes. It’s perfect for anyone who consistently feels crappy but is testing ‘normal’ and frustrated with the lack of answers from doctors.
Nutritional Therapy is NOT for anyone looking for a quick fix.
Do you provide meal plans or fitness training?
Kind of. I help clients create meal plans for themselves. I’ve been known to create templates and provide tips and resources that empower clients with the knowledge they need to get in the habit of meal planning and prepping. I’ve even made shopping lists based on where they actually get groceries from! Since my focus is on bringing systems into balance, I help clients know how to properly feed themselves to keep things in check. I do not provide calorie-counted meals or hold clients to a strict regimen focused on losing weight.
I make recommendations for fitness based on client’s intake paperwork and goals. I do not provide training services myself, but I do help clients follow their curiosities and am well versed in movement modalities as they pertain to foundational systems of the body so I can definitely field a lot of questions for you in this regard and help streamline your efforts.
I DO keep clients accountable in whatever fitness modality they choose to explore!
If your sole focus is to have someone provide calorie-counted or macro portioned meals for you so you can go on a crash diet and lose weight, this ain’t it. If you’ve been on a calorie deficit and have noticed you’ve hit a wall, your systems are out of balance and nutritional therapy is a great option for moving past this detrimental style of “nutrition”. Nutrition is about SO MUCH MORE than weight loss. Food is freakin’ medicine!
OK, rant over. I’m not sorry. I said what I said.
Am I required to purchase a continued 1:1 nutritional therapy plan after our Initial Consultation?
Nope!
What are the pricing options should I purchase additional 1:1 nutritional therapy support during our Initial Consultation?
This varies. At the moment, I am very flexible in my offers and am offering super customizable a la carte style options for support. Pricing will range from $200 – $1100 and can be as simple as monthly email check ins to help nudge you and make sure you’re following through on recommendations, or as thorough as a mix of chat support, bi-weekly calls, and a full re-test/re-check package.
How will I know it’s working?
You’ll feel it! And, there are options for a re-test where we’ll do the HTMA, NAQ, and Food & Mood Journal all over again so you can SEE the DATA!
